Casting applications typically have bearings with slow rotation and high temperatures. It is a corrosive process and there is a high probability of water ingress due to the environment.
Air/Oil in casting applications is a relatively new invention that has greatly increased the life of caster bearings. By the Minimal Lubrication approach a constant air stream is supplied to the caster bearing housing that keeps it under constant positive pressure. Then, using specialist Dropsa components, oil is injected into the air stream that brings a micro quantity of oil to the bearing.
Dropsa has been a pioneer of Air / Oil technology in these application and is a strong promoter of volumetric technology in metering of micro oil quantities.
Unlike other systems that have restrictive “splitter” devices to attempt to divide the air/oil mixture, the Dropsa volumetric approach allows you to have full assurance, with electronic monitoring and confirmation, that the exact amount of micro oil lubrication reaches every single point. Many of our customers who have used splitter type devices in the past have been amazed by the performance they have achieved using volumetric Air/oil lubrication
Dropsa has provided both new systems to machine manufactures but has also handled complete system design and projects to convert existing grease casting applications to air/oil applications.
